    No Ken,
It’s Vegas 9… If you look at Sony Vegas Pro Forum you are getting a lot unhappy customers feedback. Vegas Pro 9 crashes all the time so I went back to using version 8.c. Furthermore, when Vegas Pro 8 first came out, that version had so many problems until 8.c build corrected 98% of the problems.

Vegas Pro 9 crashes even went using DV. I need to use Vegas Pro 9 with all the new enhancements they are the new white balance, lights and focus filter etc.

    Hey Ken,
I have the same problem…dragging the event from the project bin. Then it’s starts to freeze. Yes I have reported to Sony!

    OP states:

    >>Bob- the computer has always had dual Xeon 2.83GHz 8-cores since it was built. Did not see these errors in Vegas 8 or 9a, 9b or 9c.

So why not go back to Vegas 9c?

OP says he can use Vegas 9c without problems.

    >>Bob- the computer has always had dual Xeon 2.83GHz 8-cores since it was built. Did not see these errors in Vegas 8 or 9a, 9b or 9c.

And if you can use 8c without problems, then are there no versions of 9 that you can use successfully?

Jonathan, there are many here on this board that do not have crashes every day with Vegas 9.0e. I am one of them. No problems whatsoever. Does that mean there are no problems? Nope. But we are trying to remotely troubleshoot a problem with less than optimal information. Perhaps part of the answer to this is to have everyone load Teamviewer so can remotely access their machines and get to the root cause. If you want me to log in, please send some money to my Paypal account (G).

As I mentioned, when I accidentally downloaded the 32 bit version of 9.0e onto my 64 bit OS, I did have very similar crashes. When I discovered that I had done that, I reloaded the 64 bit version and my problems *vanished*. I asked Ken if he was sure he had downloaded the 64 bit version, and have yet to get a response.

Windows is not a Mac. There are a vast array of possible configurations. Is Sony doing a great job of helping solve this? I’m not convinced. But it’s very frustrating to continually hear people blame Vegas for what is likely a hardware/OS problem. Why do I think that? Because if it was a bug like that, it would be reproduceable by all of us. Not just one user. You don’t just say, “hey because my machine crashes Vegas sucks.” Could it be a bug affecting, let’s say, all 4 monitor setups? Yes. But that isn’t the same as all of us experiencing it. Like I said, some of us are not having crashes, at all.

It would be nice if Sony had some real technical support. I’ve not needed it yet, but I’ve not heard a lot of great things about them. But I could be wrong.

You know, so many people have hijacked this thread that I have gotten all mixed up as to who posted what. (It is also interesting that all of the moderators sat this one out; and with some of the attitudes displayed, I am starting to understand why.)

Alf is right. If many other people are using 9.0e without issues (and they are), then the issue has to be hardware or software. The truth does not change just because one does not want to hear it.

Jonathan, assuming your hardware is nothing unusual, have you tried Format C:\? I know that is never fun, and it takes a long time, but a clean install can work wonders. Plus, it is much cheaper as a troubleshooting step than dropping $2500.00 on CS5; and as Steve said (whether on this thread or another one), if your system is not stable under Vegas you won’t be under Premiere.

The solution then is quite simple. Resume using Vegas 8 or 9a, 9b or 9c and all of your problems should disappear. Why keep suffering with a newer revision when an older version will get the job done?

Well all of these other guys are having the same problem.

I agree. It seems like the more features they add the less stable a responsive the program becomes. I’m embarassed to hit the playback with clients in the room because I never know what the performance will be from day to day. An a note to Sony – Utilize the freakin killer video cards that are out today. Using the CPU for video playback is just stupid in today’s environment.

    Norman and Alf,

I have reformat my harddrive. Don’t tell me it works great in version 8 on the same computer. And Vegas 9 will start having problem within the first 5 minutes on the same computer.
