Vegas 7 seems to use a different color profile than what I thought I had set up for my monitor. The colors that I see on my camera monitor and what I see when I play captured clips on MS-MediaPlayer, look correct to me. Yet, Vegas previews these same clips considerably darker.

Is there a way to set the color profiles for Vegas? I have been unable to find such an option in preferences.

    Thanks!

When you display color bars from Vegas, are they correct? If not, then your profile isn’t properly calibrated for video.
Additionally, there is a difference between Studio RGB and Computer RGB. Perhaps you’ve got your system set up for Computer vs Studio? if you’re not delivering DVDs, this is fine, but if you’re outputting to anything other than the web, you might want to rethink it.

    Spot,
Can you guide us toward some instructions on how to set up our editing computer and/or video monitor for video (DVD) vs web? Not only what settings to use but physically how to make those settings? Thanks so much.

Douglas, now that I look at this more closely, it doesn’t seem to be a color issue. Rather, Vegas displays the clips darker than both the camera monitor and darker than what MediaPlayer shows. The camera monitor and the MediaPlayer output, seem to display correctly. Vegas seems to be independently previewing darker than everything else. Still workable, but noticeably darker.

I did notice this same phenomena when I worked with Ulead MSP7, so it is likely “pilot error”. But, I don’t have a clue why I am seeing these two tones.

Terry, you might find this article to be useful. In part, it’s the same information found in the VASST “Absolute Training” Volume Four, which covers Color Correction, studio monitoring, setup, calibration, etc.

    Spot,
Thanks for the article. My 65 year old brain has a hard time getting around some of these things.
