Vegas audio / video out of sync?

Are these clips you filmed? If so, what camera? Is the audio from an external unit such as a Zoom H4?

You should be able to shift the audio a few frames to the left or right to match the sound up again. You may notice “drift” further down the timeline and have to split the audio clip and move what is the right of the split a few frames again to get it back in sync.

If the audio is attached to the video (if you move the video and the audio moves with it), simply push the “u” key while having the audio or video stream selected and it will ungroup the two streams.

Hi Jeremy,

I recorded these clips with a HD PVR capture card. It basically just captured what was on my TV and stored it on my computer in a MP4 format. The clips that were recorded play fine and the audio/video is in sync. However, when I import the clips, the sound is playing 2 seconds ahead of the video and for some reason, it’s as if the video is shortened (basically, the actual clip is ending before it should, even though it plays in full and in sync through Windows Media Player).

I thought about re-syncing the audio, but I have about 30 different clips in one project and in the future, I’ll probably have to edit even more, so it’ll have to be a last resort for me.

Can you choose another format for the capture card to capture the video in instead of mp4? If so, list them out and we can see if any of those would be better suited for editing than your mp4 file.

While you are at it, please list the mp4 file specs.

The clips are all:

mp4
1280 x 720
50 fps
Alpha = None
Field Order = Upper field first, AVC

The audio for each file is: 48,000 HZ

Just to clarify:

After my HD PVR rendered the footage from my TV as an MP4, I looked back on the footage and found that it was all in sync and everything was fine. I then went through the footage and chose the clips that I wanted to keep. For example, from 10 minutes of footage, I might only need 10 seconds. So, using Vegas (which worked fine for this task), I chose which clips I wanted and exported them as MP4s to a new folder. I’ve checked the individual clips and they are all playing fine via Windows Media Player. So, I started up a new project in Vegas so that I could put all of these clips together. I imported the clips, and this is where I’ve noticed the problem. After I import a clip, I’ve noticed that it has been cut short and that the audio is out of sync. It’s strange that everything was working fine up until a few days ago.
