I’ll make this real short. After fighting this problem for over a week now, my Vegas Pro 9.0e cannot render anything usable. The last test was as follows:

All footage captured from HDV 1080i tape. Project edited as 1080-60i. All attempted renders for DVD failed except for MPG2, 1080-60i, Upper and DVDA 24p. All others (MPG and AVI) had what we are calling horizontal interlace breakup in any movement on screen. Not a fielding thing. The then rendered out the entire show (97 mins) as M2T. This file starts out fine but as it goes it starts to develop a “strobing 24p” effect that gets worse and worse to the end. M2T should be clean all the way through.

Bottom line is, something has gone bad in my Vegas software. Any ideas or solutions? I need one lake YESTERDAY!

    Thanks.

What changed on your computer? What other software did you install? You might try a complete uninstall and re-install but chances are something else on your computer is causing the problem. Do you have a daily incremental backup you can restore to? If you are not making daily incremental backups of at least your C: drive… you should be! Then you could restore back to the last day you knew it was working.

I keep 2 months of daily incremental backups and 4 months of complete monthly backups.

The only thing that changed is I downloaded some Precomposed templates for After Effect and Encore. And maybe a flash player update.

I guess I can setup WIN 7 to do auto backups?

The big problem is I’m getting what looks like an interlace problem which can be seen in any movement. The cleanest I can get is to render out as HDV 720-30p. I’ll burn that test to DVD soon and check the results.

I do have Vegas 10.0a but I’ll wait to upgrade. I may try the uninstall/install of Vegas 9.0e tomorrow and see if that fixes it.

    Thanks.

[Ken Bennett] “The big problem is I’m getting what looks like an interlace problem which can be seen in any movement. “

Usually when you see interlace artifacts during motion it’s because you got the field order reversed somewhere along the line. Check your project field order, media field order, and render field order and make sure that they are all “correct“. Notice I did not say “all the same”. They should not necessarily all be the same. Your media field order must match the actual field order of the media regardless of what your project field order or render field order is. The field order must be “correct”.

OK. May be a studio question, but where do I CHECK the Field Order for the Project and Media. I know where to change for rendering and Upper, Lower and progressive all produced this interlace problem. This is DV footage. Not sure if this job started as a DV or HDV project.

    ???

That should have been “stupid question”, not “studio question”.

[Ken Bennett] “where do I CHECK the Field Order for the Project and Media.”

For the project press Alt+Enter and check the project settings for the field order. For the media, right-click on either the event on the timeline or the media in the Project Media pool and check the Media tab for the field order.
