    Hi All ~

PAL land here. Vegas 9.0 Pro on two systems here one XP and one Vista. Both systems lock up after a few seconds when we try to output via a firewire preview device. Haven’t got to the bottom of it yet but if anyone has any ideas it would be great to get some pointers. Think it may be something to do with the new ‘Adjust size and quality for optimal playback’ option in the right click preview monitor menu. Another observation, 9.0 seems to chew up more memory than 8.0 especially on Vista.

Yes, I also noticed instability issue when using external monitor via firewire (I’m in PAL land too).

Yes, External previewing has several kinks
to be ironed out….Does it lock up after a few seconds
without you selecting/pressing nothing or does
this occurs when you select a specific feature?

    Steve ~

Haven’t nailed it down to anything specific but it seemed to happen after hitting play a few times and also a couple of times when just cursoring along the timeline. The timeline vision would freeze but the audio was still playing. Trying to activate anything after that was useless. It was the old Windoz three finger salute to shut Vegas down.
Have had to bail out of 9.0 and back to 8.0c as have jobs that need finishing. Unusual feeling Vegas lockups. Had more with 9.0 in two days than a year of 8.0xx. Hope they get it fixed soon!

Ahhhhh…All indication i see from other users
and regarding their various configuration: SCS
gonna have to quickly put out a (9.0a) update
    to smooth out various issues.

I posted this exact same problem a few days ago, and contacted Sony about it. Haven’t heard back from them yet, but am very relieved to hear other people are having the same problem. It means it isn’t just my specific setup, and increases the chance that Sony will rush to get it fixed.

Just so you know Chris, the adjust quality/size of video during playback for smooth framerate seems to prevent it from happening more often. With it enabled Vegas would lock up when i jumped around the timeline or hit play/pause frequently. With it disabled, vegas would lock up almost immediately.

At least in the meantime I can enjoy my free preorder gift in Vegas 8 😛

Steve, David, Frank et al ~

Re v9.0. When I get a chance I will have a further play-around my end to see if anything obvious overcomes the problem. I doubt somehow as sadly it looks to be a genuine bug/issue. Just glad to see it isn’t system specific to any one of us. Sony will want to jump on this quickly because one thing Vegas is known for is its legendary stability and I would hate to see that reputation go out the window.

    Til later then
