Vegas 9 taking FOREVER to render
I’m new to this forum, so bear with me.
I’ve been looking around everywhere, but can’t seem to find an answer to this:
I’m running Sony Vegas on an XP 32bit Dell Latitude D630 with an Intel Core2 Duo processor and 1gb of RAM, and I know that isn’t exactly the ideal system to run Vegas on, but it’s the only one i’ve got. Now I made a simple 15 second intro video and I layered 2 videos on top of one and added text and text effects, and Vegas ran really smoothly. I was surprised at how smoothly it ran with 1GB of RAM as opposed to Premiere Pro which I had in the past. Now, I really want this intro, but once I start to render it, the time remaining just shoots up and up and up infinitely and does not stop at all. I left it running for 5 hours and the time remaining was still climbing. I set the render settings to .mov, 3mbps, 25 fps, and 640 x 360 frame size, and it still climbs and climbs infinitely. I was wondering if there was a fix, because I really just need this 15 second clip, and thats it, but seriously? I’m not waiting 5 days for it. However, I did do a very short clip as a test, with no effects or layers and it rendered really fast, so it is that when I layer videos, it triples the rendering time or something? I’ve tried shutting down all other applications and defragging multiple times and emptying the cache and nothing works. I have no idea and am stuck.
Any help is much appreciated.
If anyone is willing to take my save file and movie files, put it together for me, and email it to me, i’d really appreciate that too…

You really need to watch for the fx you place on the files. Some fx render quicker than others. You don’t mention the ones you’ve applied but that will add to your render time.
In addition, if you have adjusted the transparancy to allow for one video track to show through to the other, this will increase your render time as well. Just layering a text file over top of a video should not be that noticeable.
As a test, try rendering it out in 5 second clips (use the loop selection tool and in the render dialogue box check “render loop region only”. Choose uncompressed AVI as your render format if you have the hard drive space to hold it (if not, download Lagarith- it’s free and use it).
Let us know what happens. I may not respond as I am leaving town tomorrow and won’t be back for a week or so but I will try to check back when I can.

You need to supply a lot more information. Among other things, which version of Vegas are you using, how many different videos are being rendered to produce the final output, what is the format of each of these videos, what effects are being applied and where are they applied, and what is the intended use for the rendered video? Also, how many hard drives are in your system, and how are they being used during the render?
I can tell you that I routinely render with a slower system than yours. Mine can routinely render a 1 hour video to a DVDA mpeg format in 12-13 hours. That one hour video is composed of two video tracks where the output video alternates back and forth from one track to the other. Both tracks have color correctors, brightness/contrast, and color curves applied. They both also use pan/crop to constantly zoom in and out modestly. One of the tracks has fairly strong sharpening applied. The render is done at a high quality level. I do have three fairly large internal hard drives so that rendering is not done on the system drive.
