  • Vegas 8c crashes when opening a Vegas 8 project?

I have an old 8.0 veg file with VOB files on the timeline. I tried opening that same veg file in 8c today but it crashes every single time. I remember the VOB files didn’t rip with audio so I had to rip it separately and sync them up… but they worked just fine in 8.0 so why wouldn’t 8c be able to handle them? It gives me this:

    Sony Vegas Pro 8.0
    Version 8.0c (Build 260)
    Exception 0xC0000005 (access violation) WRITE:0x8A10000 IP:0x24A02BE1
    In Module ‘mcdddec.dll’ at Address 0x24A00000 + 0x2BE1

Can I revert to 8.0 without the disc?

You can uninstall Vegas 8 and install an older version but why are you editing DVD Video Object files in the first place? You should be converting them to MPEG2 or DV or something that is an edit format. VOB is a delivery format and Vegas is a source editor. While you CAN drop a VOB file on the timeline, it doesn’t mean that you SHOULD. You should always work with formats that are optimal for editing.
