Vegas 8.0 keeps freezing while rendering
I am trying to make multiple WMV videos into a single WMV clip. Every time I render it, at around 86%, Vegas with either give me some giant error, or close itself without any warning, or freeze without any error.
I don’t think the problem is my PC, since I have made about 80 videos before with Vegas, some loaded with special effects. The video I am trying to make has no effects, and is just under 10 minutes long. I’ve tried different WMV rendering modes, but it still freezes.
I don’t want to render in a different format, because it has to fit on youtube, and I don’t want quality to suffer.
I tried rendering just the section I thought it was freezing at, and it rendered just fine.
I had this happen once before, and I upgraded to Vegas 9.0 and remade the whole video, but then 9.0 started giving me trouble with effects not showing up, so I went back to 8.0. I’ve been fine for a while until now again.

Try rendering the WMV files to individual avi files first before dropping them on the vegas timeline. This should solve your problem.

If it is crashing at exactly the same point, you can just create a selection area (loop region) and render out a second or two of that spot as an intermediary and insert that back into the project with frame-accurate positioning and then do a normal render. I have solved quite a few trouble spots this way, even ones that don’t have a cause I can figure out.
I’d use AVI with the Lagarith codec for this purpose.
