VMS8 does support AVCHD, import from the camera directly. I don’t have a UX5, but do have a CX7. Files open in VMS8.
Can you please more clearly describe your workflow?
Oops, just saw you have VMS 7…not 8. Not sure what to tell you there. I don’t have VMS 7 to test, but I believe it does not support AVCHD.

Douglas, thanks for yur reply. I do have vegas 8 platinum. I watched your dvd supplied with platinum 7. Problem: if I go to “capture video”, I get “device nor available”. It downloads to “import media files” that comes with camera software. Then, when editing, the “edited version” comes as a “.vf” file. This appears in explorer, but I can’t open it in media files. Please let me know if I should direct these basic questions to the “vegas basic forum”.

You should indeed be in the Vegas Basics forum. 🙂

1-The VF file you see is a project file for Vegas Movie Studio. It contains no video; it’s just a pointer file to all the media your timeline has collected. You need to render to create a file that Windows Media Player or other player can open.

2-AVCHD isn’t captured, it’s transferred. Rather than “capturing” use the File/Import command.

do u have any AVCDHD test file and how to import it, because in vegas 8 I didnt find this file support ? How to do it to test vegas (I am thinking to buy Sony HDRCX6EK camera). Thanks a lot … N.
