    Hi folks,

Does anyone out there know where Sony Vegas hides its custom render templates – and how you can import/export them?

I’ve generated 1080HD, 720HD and widePAL templates to suit my purposes on different machines and I’d like to force them all to be exactly the same – it’s easy to get variations creeping in if you’re not really careful. Presumably there’s an easy way to import/export your own custom templates.

I’m probably being an idiot, but I can’t figure out how to do it!

    Thanks,

    JM

All of the custom rendering templates are in:

    C:Documents and SettingsApplication DataSonyFile Templates

Where is your windows account name.
Just copy them over to your new PC and they should be recognized.

Bless you Mike. Quite right – I’d already looked in there and missed it!

Glad it worked for you John.
Credit should rightfully go to John Rofano as I learned this from a posting he did on another Vegas forum.

    Hi Mike,

Thank you for the file location, I can now access the render templates on the other PC. Do you also know where I can find the other custom settings such as pan/crop templates, effect chains, templated effect settings and so on?

    Thank you in advance!

    Regards,

    Robin

Robin, I’m glad it’s worked for you so far.

Before I go any further, I have to add a warning and that is that Sony changed things in V9 Pro and some (if not all) of your custom render templates will not show up after installation.
They’re also now in Render Templates instead of File Templates and have changed the file extension (*.sft2 instead of *.sft) so that we can’t even copy them over 🙁
A bug report about this has been filed by me and a few other users with Sony but we have not received a satisfactory response yet.

To get back to your question.
I stand to be corrected but FX chains (custom ones with 2 or more FX in them) are the only things I know of that can be successfully copied from one machine to another.
Sony has a free utility called Preset Manager that is designed for this purpose.

Here’s how I do it with Windows 7.
