You’re welcome, Dave, but it’s really John who deserves the credit. I was ready to pull my hair out until I found his post and he replied to my thread. But anyway, glad to help, and best of luck to you.

John: Thanks for always responding so quickly to help out those us who get easily confused. Here’s another one for ya . . . if I render my 7D MOV files as HDV files as opposed to the Sony YUV HD, aren’t I losing resolution? The footage was shot in 1080p, 24p, and on the Canon 7D, that’s 1920×1080, right? I thought HDV was 1440. Thanks.

[Nathan Halder] “if I render my 7D MOV files as HDV files as opposed to the Sony YUV HD, aren’t I losing resolution? The footage was shot in 1080p, 24p, and on the Canon 7D, that’s 1920×1080, right? I thought HDV was 1440. “

No you are not loosing resolution because HDV has a pixel aspect ratio of 1.3333 and 1.3333 * 1440 = 1920. It does save less information so you may loose “quality”. If this concerns you then you can certainly use Sony YUV or purchase Cineform Neo Scene which also supports full 1920×1080.

Thanks John. I contacted Cineform and they told me how to completely remove the Neoscene reader. They then suggested reinstalling Vegas 8.0 and seeing if Vegas would let me use the Cineform codec in rendering the HDV intermediate codec. Thanks for the input.

John: I apologize for taking so long to follow up . . .

I was in the process of getting a new computer so I didn’t want to mess around with un/reinstalling Vegas.

On my new system, in which I have never downloaded any Cineform products, I made a fresh install of Vegas Pro 8 and am able to render using Cineform’s intermediate codec. So if anyone is having a problem, uninstall your NeoScene products, uninstall Vegas, and then start fresh. You should then be able to use the supplied Cineform codecs.
