I have a 75 minutes timeline and when I cut it using markers and only render regions between markers Vegas 7 does a good job. I can render my 75 minutes in 8 pieces. But when I try to render the whole timeline in one piece it crashes, at various places. Never at the same place. gluing pieces together is not satisfactory as I end up, for some reason, with out of synch sound. I do render the whole audio time line in one piece, and when I drop my 8 video streams glued together by MPEG VIDEO WIZARD DVD, in DVD Architect and I drop my one piece audio I end up losing the synch between the video and the audio track.
I’m really losing confidence in Vegas and wondering if eventually building a new I7 machine to support version 9is worth it.
What’s the point if I can’t render my work?

Which settings do you use to render your video?

Don’t blame the tool…you are the one doing something or
have something on the time line thats causing that.
Theo asked you an important question…added to that,
what video format/s do you have on the timeline?

What kind of error are you getting when you try and render the whole video? The fact that you can render in sections but not the whole project usually points to a problem with the stability of your computer for long renders. Rendering video is probably the hardest thing your computer will ever do. It pushes the processor and cooling to it’s limits. Quite often too much heat builds up and causes a failure during long renders.

Try rendering the whole project with the side panel off of your computer with a fan blowing on it. If you have had the computer for over a year and you keep in on or near the floor, it may be time to vacuum it out. Especially vacuum the fins on the heat sink for the processor. Unfortunately, CPU fans blow down onto the processor and this causes dust to build up at the base of the cooling fins like a felt pad. This should be removed once a year to ensure good cooling.

As far as building a new machine… that’s probably not a bad idea. I can assure you that 1000’s of us are rendering long videos every day with Vegas without problems. It’s probably not Vegas but more than likely your computer that is not up to the task.

Sure, I can buy that it could be my computer.
I’m using the 2007 videoguys build, I have a Q6700 (quad core at 2.66) 4 gig of very good corsair memory and all the computer is clean, since I recently updated the processor from a E6600 and cleaned the whole thing. I need to add that the computer runs very cool. No signs of heating.
If it helps I’ll also add that since I’ve installed the new processor I simply can’t get into the BIOS setting. I’m aware that I should update my BIOS, but since I can’t get into POST I’m not sure how to do that now, and I’m advised on the ASUS board NOT to use ASUS update, but instead use something else that I access during POST IN BIOS.

I’ve been trying to render into DVD ARCHITECT NTSC WIDESCREEN VIDEO STREAM, it also crashes in any other compatible DVD compatible format. My footage is in NEO HDV
