  • Vegas: 64-bit XP or 32-bit XP?

I’m preparing to set up Vegas 8 on a brand-new PC. I’ve been reading in various forums about running Vegas in 32-bit vs. 64-bit XP. (I’m not considering Vista at this time — too much uncertainty at this point.)

I am putting Vegas on a machine dedicated to video production, so I don’t have to worry about other apps working in a 64-bit environment. I do plan to upgrade to the 64-bit Vegas when it’s available.

Has anyone had first-hand experience, good or bad, with running the current 32-bit Vegas 8 under 64-bit XP Pro? It seems to make sense to me, but I’m a bit nervous.

    Thanks for any input.

I had a problem with other apps not running on WinXP 64 bit so I waited until they released the relevant service packs. I am now running everything on Win XP 64 bit and its all working fine. Vegas Pro 8 runs fine in 64 bit mode.

However be aware some plugins may not be recognized automatially in SV pro 8. Eg. Boris red works in 64 bit mode but you will have to copy the relevant files manually to the plugin folder in SV pro 8. There is a post in here somewhere that explains it very nicely.

    Cheers Craig

    Hi,

I’ve been running Windown XP 64 and Vegas 8 since last summer and everything is fine with Vegas 8. I’ve had trouble with my Intel Audio Studio which has to be reloaded on occasion, and in fact had to be loaded in a particular order after certain other programs or it wouldn’t work. So its really a Windows problem. Everything with Vegas has been just fine.
