Vegas 13: How to apply an FX effect to various tracks at once?
Posted by John Rodriguez on December 22, 2025 at 4:50 pmHi, im still using Vegas 13 as it does anything I need and cannot get arround learning another different workflow but something missing is that I never found a way to apply an FX to various tracks at once.
For instance I have an image layered on top of a clip and I want to apply a scanline effect pluggin on both the image and the video at once so it looks even. How do I do this?
I tried using an empty track with both the image and video parented to it and applying the FX plugin to the empty track but it does not work. Pleast le tme know.

December 23, 2025 at 2:42 pmHey there,
Awesome that you’re still using V13! I used that version for a long time myself before switching and it worked great for me.
Have you tried using the Video Bus track to apply effects? This basically applies the effect to all your tracks.
As far as I know, there isn’t an easy way in V13 to apply the same effects to multiple specific tracks at once. But if your goal is to add the effect to everything together, Video Bus is the way to go!

December 25, 2025 at 9:57 pmTry using Parent/Child tracks.
Track 1: Parent Track
Tracks 2, 3, 4 (whatever is needed to define all tracks that get this effect): Child tracks to Track 1
Add an effect on track 1 and move it AFTER the “Composite” (you can drag effects left or right of “composite” and each other). Now adjust the effect as desired and all children will get that change in the effect.

December 29, 2025 at 5:58 pmYeah this did the trick. I had to change the order above and put the effects after “Composite”.
The problem with Vegas 13 is it seems it crashes a lot when I work with a number of different video tracks. I typically would use a few video tracks but this projects requires a bit more, so I don’t know what causes this. I have an image on top of a video and it’s crashing when I play even on Draft mode. This is the error log:

That would be your video driver. Try updating your video driver.

December 30, 2025 at 9:54 pmNo difference, in fact it may be worse now. I think this software is just too old. I tried disabling GPU acceleration, it doesnt crash but it’s unusable due low FPS preview. I would update to a new Sony Vegas version but im so used to this old school workflow that im not sure I want to do that.

December 30, 2025 at 9:58 pmFirst of all, you have the LAST “Sony” version. All versions since then are from Magix – there is no such product as “Sony Vegas” for over a decade.
You might try installing and testing VEGAS Pro 23 (by Magix) and you’ll find what you want to do has become easier. The newest version now has Adjustment Tracks and Adjustment Events that should simplify what you are wanting to do.

December 31, 2025 at 6:18 pmI have installed an older version, its not crashing for now, but the FPS is really bad. I think I should buy the latest Vegas version but im not sure. Will my Sony Vegas Pro 13 project file be able to open fine? What about by Sapphire FX old pack? will it work?
