Vegas 11 FREEZES when i try to import large files/ also avi’s will not import
I have been dealing with this issue for months and now that i am working with Vegas more frequently it is really becoming a problem
First of all, any type of AVI file will not import into Vegas. “The files cannot be dropped” or something like that because “there was a problem unpacking a codec” I tried downloading this thing that starts with a G… To see if i have the correct Codecs and it says i do.
Second, LARGE files, especially of great quality freeze Vegas. I drop it, and the little blue circle flashes like it’s loading for less than a second, then freezes on me and i have to do CTRL ALT DELETE to get out. When going to “FILE” to import it, the same thing happens when i even select the file. This has happened with two types of files but right now i am dealing with a MPEG-2 TS file.
PLEASE help me.

NEVER install a CODEC pack on your editing PC. Just a warning in case someone suggests it.
What is the source of the AVI file? AVI is just a container and the data it contains can be from any CODEC.
What O/S?
How much RAM?
Which Processor?
How many hard disk drives?
How much free space?
Does the problem present in any other programs?

I guess the first question is, “Did you install a codec-pak like K-Lite?” Because as Stephen said, that’s never a good idea. If so… uninstall it, reinstall Vegas and see if that fixes things.
