Vegas 11 crashing when rendering to MP4
Posted by Bob Mark on July 25, 2012 at 4:14 pmI’m using Vegas Pro 11 build 683 64 bit. I am having trouble rendering to MP4. It either crashes the program or says an unexpected error occurred. What is the best codec for MP4 with Vegas? Thanks.

July 25, 2012 at 7:25 pmHey Bob,
Which codec are you using? MainConcept or Sony?
Are you trying to use a template that produces an .m2ts file?
Ever installed a codec pack (sorry, I had to ask.)Jeff

July 26, 2012 at 7:37 pmI have tried many different ones. Some work and some don’t. I didn’t get the crashing until recently. WMP would not play some of the files, so it must have been a codec thing. I will install the latest Codec pack for Win 7. What works best for you with MP4? Thanks.

July 26, 2012 at 9:21 pmNo, no, no, don’t install a codec pack. The always make trouble for Vegas and any other video editing platform.
I use Sony’s AVC codec. I’ve not had any problems with it.
Give more details about the crash… What was the cause? Who was the culprit? (it should be in the error message or the windows event logs.)

July 31, 2012 at 4:07 pmThe file listere under Fault Module: C:Windows/system32/amdocl64.dll
Belongs to your video card driver for open CL runtime.
It is made by AMD, not Sony.Jeff

July 31, 2012 at 6:32 pmI have GPU assist turned off. I can render with Vegas 8 but not 11.
My laptop is HP and they say the graphics card driver is up to date,
but AMD has a newer version (they won’t release it to me, they say contact HP).Bob

August 1, 2012 at 6:25 pmJeff, I think you are right that the AMD card is the problem. I disabled it and used the on board Intel gfx and I could render MP4 using the Sony codecs. I could not get the Main Concept template to work. Thanks.
