Vegas 10 locks up for 20s when changing focus
Now this problem is not major but more annoying. All my source data is on a network drive running over a GigeE lan so is pretty fast access. When I use HD footage (1440 x 1080) I get no problem however whenever I choose a 720×576 standard DV Widescreen file and then change focus to say explorer and then go back to Vegas, it hangs for about 15 seconds and all my media “goes offline”. I only use DV very rarely however I’ve been working on a small documentary and it has 5 minutes of standard DV in it.
A workaround is to copy the DV files to my local drive which is fine but just a pain.
As I say not a major problem but just wondered if anyone now’s why this happens? No probelms if not.

Vegas has a preference in Options | Preferences | General for [X] Close media files when not the active application which defaults to “on” (checked). Just uncheck it and Vegas will not close the media files. This has the side-effect that you cannot edit those files outside of Vegas while Vegas is running because it has them open, but that’s why the preference is there (so you can choose).
There is also a preference right under it for [X] Close audio and MIDI ports when not the active application for the same reason. This lets other applications like Sound Forge use the ASIO audio ports when outside of Vegas.

Can I ask another unrelated question?
I’ve been using DV Film to create a more film like effect on my raw footage before importing the outputed AVI’s into Sony Vegas. Should the Project be set to 1440 x 1080i or Progressive when creating an equavalent Blu Ray disk? i.e. do the proejct settings get changed by whatever you render as or do they need to match? I ask because the avi’s are nice and smooth bet when I watch on a Blu Ray from Vegas you get a very jerky look when panning. I know you get the jerkyness look with film espically when moving sideways and Iam learnign this sutff so appolgoeis if it’s a stupid question.
