First off, what version of Vegas Pro are you using ? Was the audio recorded separately from the video ?
Cheers !

With Vegas, render the .MP3 audio track to .WAV
Do you get the same problem ?
Cheers !

Please, humour me.
Tell me me if I’m way off base here. You’re working on an edit that has separate video and audio files. When you want to save the project (as a .VEG) it won’t let you. Correct ?
If so, and this is for the process of elimination, render your .MP3 track by itself as a .WAV
Replace your .MP3 file in your edit with the .WAV file.
Can you save your project as a .VEG now ?
Tip: if you move your original .MP3 file after saving your project to .VEG (thus saving all your edit points and effects) upon re-opening and getting the File Missing message, point to the new .WAV file and replace.
Reason is that sometimes, some files, randomly and without any appearance of logic will create problems of all kinds. Even from one comp to another you may get different responses from the same software. There has been numerous documented instances on this forum and elsewhere regarding .MP3 problems.
I know it’s not always possible but if one can, try to get an un-compressed file right off the bat. MP3 files are really compressed.
Cheers !

It saves it but only the video is there when i open the veg again and it says “do you want to search for the mp3.” I can search for the mp3 but it is the original one not edited to fit the video
I will try your suggestion re wav and get back to you. Thanks
