Activity Forums Adobe After Effects Vectors?

Not sure what to title this post but ‘Vectors’ seemed close.

I have a clip that I’d like to, well, vectorize I guess. It’s the look that Illustrator is best at (flat, colored shapes). I think I could export out of QT or even AE as an image sequence and manually do it in Illustrator but OMG! Days, nea WEEKS of work! Perhaps Photoshop with it’s droplets would be better but that’s all raster.

I’m still quite new at AE (just beginning the TT DVD’s) and have done a few projects prior to the training so I’m betting that there’s a simple effect that I already have which does this PDQ. I’m just too new to find it.

    FYI: I’m using AE6.5Pro, PS CS1 and IL CS1

I found that Flash can really be handy when converting images and movies to vectors. From memory it’s called trace bitmap. Then you have control over the amount of detail you can give the vectors. If that doesn’t do what your after, then Adobe’s Streamline is the good ole’ fashion way. These methods can then be imported into AE.

Or you could hand draw you 30 million frames 🙂

Oh ya, I have FlashMX2004! Not that I forgot I had it but that I forgot that it could do the job I was after. Thanks for the reminder.

I would think one of the Adobe apps could do it, and do it automatically. I suppose, given the Macromedia buyout, one can 🙂

There’s a feature in AE 6.5 called Autotrace.
It makes a mask out of a threshold value in R,G,B or alpha

Depending on your footage that could get you started pretty well.
