Vcards… hyperlinking and .htaccess

nope – not related to htaccess. i’d guess that your browser knows what that type of content is, so it opens it by itself instead of prompting you as to what you want to do with it.

you can add a note to users to right-click and save, or you can add a php or other type of script wrapper that forces a download. the latter would require a bit of scripting knowledge, however…

well, hang on…. I found an example this morning of a vcard and it worked on my same machine but my example didn’t.

Viewing their source, it was a straight hyper link. Let me find that url..

ahh – ya. that’ll work too. sorry. sorta spaced the mime type addition in htaccess… :-/

you might not be able to override that on godaddy, though – apache can control pretty strictly what you can and can’t override in that htaccess file, and so they might not let you add mime types, meaning that your example would never work…

(so if that works then cool – otherwise, that’s a heads up as to a potential culprit)

I had this exact same issue with my Vcard links not downloading on GoDaddy’s Linux server. The links worked when on a PC but not using any of the Mac browsers. The problem was solved completely by simply switching from GoDaddy’s Linux platform to their Windows platform. Now the links work perfectly on both PC and Mac!
