Howdy, I’m shooting in HD with avchd and prodcuting MTS files. Because my computer system in underpowered I decided to try making proxies with Vasst’s trial software. I encountered lots of problems. First a 15 second clip took just under 30 minutes to render. That would make a 30 minute documentary 60 hours of rendering time. Has that been everyone elses experience? Seems like an inordinate amount of time as there were no effects or anything on the clip. Second, I had a 15 second clip with audio attached. I imported into gearshift using source files as I had it stored in a folder. Gearshift when rendering placed it on the timeline and promptly rendered it without audio. It stated that the media was offline. I tried several times to render this audio, but never could do it. Also, when I tried to cancel during a render it would not cancel. I got pretty frustrated with the experience and canceled the trial evaluation. I’m just wondering if I did something wrong and what other users experiences have been, because I haven’t eliminated this yet as a possible solution if I am doing something wrong. Thanks for the input.

Hi Gary, I’m sorry to hear that you had so many problems with GearShift. Even as a trial user, you can use our help email (ultimatesupport) and get support so feel free to send us an email if you want personalized help. Part of the trial is trying out our customer support as well. 😉

What are the specs on your PC? If it’s very underpowered, it could certainly take that long.

What happens with you drop this clip on the Vegas timeline? Do you get audio? GearShift is an automation tool that uses Vegas to do the rendering. If Vegas can’t read the audio in the file, then GearShift won’t be able to work with it.

[Gary Badgley] ” Also, when I tried to cancel during a render it would not cancel.”

Yea, it’s not the ideal situation but you need to give Vegas the focus by clicking on the Vegas icon at the bottom tray in Windows and then press the ESC key. Otherwise Vegas won’t get your cancel request.

It sounds frustrating. We’re sorry it didn’t go smoothly for you but we’re willing to work with you on this. You can reply here or send us a support email to try and see if we can make this work for you.

Hi John, thanks again for your input. I think my system is just too underpowered to deal with this codec, even with Gearshifts help. I have decided to have a system built -Quad processor, 16 gigs of Ram, the proper card etc. Thanks again for your assistance John, I really appreciate your help.
