Varicam footage: DP told us to use the “Panasonic Film Look” LUT…?
I’m assistant editor on a project with interviews shot on the Varicam. The DP shot them in a very flat, low contrast way, so that we could then apply the “Panasonic Film Look LUT.” Now, I know roughly what a LUT is (color look-up table), but I don’t know where to find this LUT, whether I can apply it in Apple Color or only in some other app, or what…?
Any tips? I’m not terribly familiar with all this, and had been under the impression that a LUT applied in post was primarily used for RAW footage (from the Red, etc.).
So what do I need to do here? I would just color correct on my own, and increase the contrast, adjust the gamma, etc. but the DP has asked for this specific LUT to be used, and Google searches aren’t helping me out so far. Thanks in advance!

Color can apply LUTs. Panasonic should have LUTs to download from their web site. Often you can work out what the LUT is doing and then mimic it with the luma curve in Color.

Yes, you need to apply the LUT in Color.
LUTs are not just for RAW stuff.In fact I’m not sure that LUTs have any meaning when shooting RAW.
When you shot RAW you don’t apply any Color Profile. RAW is RAW.
When you shot with certain Color Profiles, the LUT is like an inverse formula.
In Color you only need to “Import” the “.mga” file.

Thanks both for the info. Now I just need to find some downloadable LUTs on Panasonic’s website…so far no dice, but I’ll keep looking. Does anyone know where they might be found? So far, all I’ve found are scene files, which are just files for use in-camera, right?

I’ve been looking well in Google, and I haven’t find a single mention of any LUT for desktop Color grading.
There is extensive information, but I get lost.
have a look to those docs:– Here there is alink to a LUT, but nathing you can use in Apple Color. Look down in “post Production.

Is strange, because just a couple of months ago I’ve been making the color grading of some stuff recorded on a Canon DSLR with the Technicolor profile. The picture looks horribly washed out, but as soon as you imported the LUT is (free to download from the Technicolor website), the picture changed completely and was ready to export with just few corrections.
Anyway, I saw that you posted on the Color forum. I’ll keep on eye there.
