    [Robert Armstrong] “Anyone know why?”

Yes, Final Cut Pro is a tawdry system that simply does not work. At all.

    Just kidding.

Can you give a little more information as far as frame rate, codec, how you captured/rendered the footage and any other specific information that might help us help you? Os, FCP version, QT version, blah blah blah.

    I captured Varicam footage 720/24p
I shot it all at 48 fps and converted with FCP frame rate converter to 720/24p
I now have finished clips in slow mo in a DVCPROHD 720/24p timeline
The clips play back fine. When I use a dissolve or use a V2 track on top of V1 at the begining and end of the V2 track the V1 clip jumps or repeats frames on play back and render.
I ‘m using FCP studio 2 with the up to date software.
Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM

    Help!

    Cool, that helps a ton.

Try this for me. Take ONE of your conformed clips (the ones you ran through the FRC shot @ 48) and duplicate it in the finder to make a copy of it. Open that copy in Cinema Tools and hit the conform button on the bottom right and choose 23.98. Bring that clip into FCP and try the dissolve.

If that doesn’t make sense to you, post back.

I tried that but the clip is already 23.98 It didn’t write a new file.
I even tried it on a 15inch Macbook pro with the same result.

Its funny I have used this same type of footage in slow mo and never had this problem before.

It shouldn’t write a new file, it conforms your current one which is why it should be duplicated. And it’s not 23.98 it’s 23.976 but Apple calls it 23.98. So you tried it and it didn’t work? Is that what you are saying?

What if you dissolve between two clips on the same track and not v1/v2?

    I found the problem.
When I use the feather edges on V2 it jumps when I remove it it plays fine. I also used Prores 1280×720

    Everything is good
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi,

I have the same problem, but I didn’t use any edge feather so that didn’t help. Altough it wasn’t necessary, I did render the sequence and that solved the “jump” problem. I hope it won’t happen anymore ;o)
