If I create a new project … load in an AVCHD video (.mts) with attached audio all works fine in VMS (ver 12 platinum)
However if I then click on audio track and select “open in Audio Editor” it opens Sound Forge 10 … but then gives error “Unsupported Format

If instead I do “open Copy in Editor” it then opens OK, I can edit as necessary, but how do I do a ‘save or close’ and get it to replace the audio track automatically in Vegas … which I thought “open in Audio Editor” would give me.

I know I could save as .wav, import it, then mute original track … but that seems a lot of unnecessary steps.

[Rick Hughes] “If instead I do “open Copy in Editor” it then opens OK, I can edit as necessary, …”

That’s the way you want to do it as this method is non-destructive to your original file.

“but how do I do a ‘save or close’ and get it to replace the audio track automatically in Vegas …”

Doing it with the “open Copy in Editor” method automatically creates a new event for you and labels it as Take 2 in your Vegas project.
Do your processing in Sound Forge, click Save and your Vegas project audio event is automatically updated. The Take 2 WAV file is also saved in the same folder as the source event.
In Vegas, you can switch between the original audio event and the new one by clicking on the audio event and pressing t.

OK .. that looks like it save me a few steps -I was saving importing, and then applying mute to exiting audio

I was looking for a new new audio file on the project timeline, which I see is not the the way it works.

I just tried … and it works … one thing that is unclear pressing ‘t’ does toggle the audio files, how can I tell which is active, there is no ‘name’ unless I go look under properties .. would have thought it would add the name.

If I render assume it will use the currently active only ?

Another question on this … tried a couple of audio edits … open copy in Soundforge .. when I return to Vegas the timeline shows “Media offline”

Is there something extra I need to do ?

[Rick Hughes] ” how can I tell which is active”

To see what I had on my screenshots, use View > Active Take Information.
    Ctrl+shift+i is the shortcut key.

[Rick Hughes] “when I return to Vegas the timeline shows “Media offline””

Options > Preferences > General > Close media files when not the active application.
If this option is not selected, click on it, restart VMS and try again.

Must be a bit tick today … not sure what you mean ?

Do you mean a forum setting or setting in Vegas ? my Audio track do not have ‘file name’ as an overlay like yours do in your reply.

[Rick Hughes] “that option is already ticked”

Try saving it in Sound Forge and see if it shows up in your Vegas Media Tab as original filename take 2.wav (it should be there).

Just tried again … used ‘open copy’ carry out editing in SF … then ‘save’ and quit SF.
The new file exists in Project media …. but shows off-line … have to wait several minutes before it comes back on-line.

The ‘close media’ option you mention is set.
