  • Using Toast to make a DVD Pal movie.

Posted by Graham Scholes on October 27, 2005 at 2:40 pm

I have been having trouble trying to make a PAL formated movie using Toast.

My movie documentary is 64 minutes long and when in FCP I export using “Using Quicktime Conversion”
The movie Settings I define are as follows……
    Video …. is checked.
    Compression: Video
    Quality: Best
    Frame rate: 29.97 – ( (I have tried a file without a frame rate).

    Sound ….is checked.
    Format: Uncompressed
    Sample rate: 44.1 kHz
    Sample size: 16
    Channels: 2

Prepare for Internet Streaming…. is checked. (I have tried a file with out this checked).

When I drop the resulting Quicktime file into Toast with the Options set at PAL and click to proceed with burning a DVD I get a window that comes up saying, –
“The video standard has been changed to NTSC”

Can someone advise what I am doing wrong and how to prevent Toast from reverting back to NTSC when I try to burn a PAL DVD disc.

    Thanks,

You are exporting an NTSC Quicktime. PAL is 25fps and has a different resolution. Toast is not going to do a PAL conversion for you.

Use Final Cut and convert the sequence to PAL, using a plug-in like Natress. Then export a PAL Quicktime Movie.

Thanks Sean for the feedback regarding the plug-in Natress. Will work with this.

If your footage is 29.97 (NTSC) and you want to make a PAL movie I would look no further than compressor.

In my experience compressor is rather slow but the results are good.
