  • Using one video track as a stencil for the other?

OK, I will try to explain.
I managed to Chroma key a bitch of a footage – the green screen was more like yellowish and thus was close to the actor’s skin color.

I managed to key it out somehow, but problem is that I had to mess a lot with the Levels, Hue, Contrast, etc.
So I eneded up with a relatively well keyed-out footage that looks like sh*t because of all the extra adjustments that I had to apply to it.

Can I duplicate the same track and use the keyed-out bad looking footage as a stencil for the twin footage that has all the adjustments stripped off of it?
    It is possible in AfterEffects.
Could this be done in SonyVegas too?

    Hope I explained it right.

Yes you can if you use the right tools in Vegas. The easiest way to repair a bad green screen is with the Secondary Color Corrector. Set it to only affect the color of the screen and then use it to change the color to a better green. You may need to apply it several times in a chain at very narrow color width to get all of the screen to change but I find that this is the best approach. The Secondary Color Corrector also has a Mask option where it will just show the Black & White mask that it is using. You can then use it as a mask on another track if you’d like.
