Need a couple of macs to batch hours of dvcpro hd material to external firewire drives. Will a couple of macbooks be up to the task ? (I can see this is not the best solution, but I need something portable and cheap) Anyone tried this ?

MacBook Pro would be a much better solution. The base 15″ model is very reasonably priced.

Thanks, but I already have about 10 macbooks so it would be nice if I could use these..

Anyways, looks like it will work (these macs are ONLY for batching. Editing will be done on a macpro)

I’ve worked in DVCPROHD 1080i60 on MacBook’s before and they handled it pretty decently. I’ve never captured.. but if you have the machines I’d say give it a try. It should probably work without any problems if you’re over firewire. But I haven’t done it.
