Using imac Display for video monitoring
I realise that this is ill advised, but due to lack of funds I will have to use my Intel duo imac display screen to edit video in final cut pro. (I know there were probably cheaper and more effective alternatives but unfortunately it’s a bit late now).
So what I want to ask is how do I calibrate my imac display to display video as close to broadcast standard as possible?
I think the luminance of my screen is a particularly important issue as it does seem very bright.
I have spyder pro if it helps (although I am wary of messing about with tghe 2.2 / 1.8 gamma adjustments that final cut pro apparently makes automatically).
Any help would be much appreciated (sorry, posted this twice accidentally).

The only way I know to calibrate an ACD to color bars is through an MXO, but with an Imac, I can’t see a way you could hook one up. Plus, it would cost more than a cheap monitor and A to D converter. Imac is more or less a consumer machine, you can’t do many things or add cards and such the way you could with a a tower or MacBook Pro.
So I think the answer is no.

doesn’t the iMac have a DVI port? I thought it did. If it does, you can use the MXO and Apple 23″ display.
The iMac itself just won’t do. Mainly due to the way it displays color, but also because FCP doesn’t display a full quality image in the Viewer or Canvas.

We go back to the original question where Olive does not have any money to spend. Your cheapest solution, assuming you are editing DV footage, is to use a Firewire Camera/Deck and output it to any TV set in your house via rca cables.
