  • Using Encore to create a DVD from an Avid Sequence

What is the best and fastest way to author a DVD using Adobe Encore from an Avid Sequence? I was testing Encore out with a 36 minute video edited in my Avid Xpress Pro system. I exported the sequence to a Quicktime Movie and have been transcoding the sequence for a couple of hours only to get an error message. Is there a fast way to do this or does Encore really only work with Adobe programs?

Encore 1.x doesn’t work especially well with QuickTime files. (2.0 is better with them.) If you can export an MPEG-2 file from Avid, that would be best. Otherwise, try using an AVI file.

I export from Avid Xpress Pro as an AVI. Seems to work OK, EXCEPT when I’m exporting a 16×9 image. Can’t get Encore (1.5) to recognise the widescreen format. If I export from Avid as 720×576 then (obviously) Encore thinks it’s 4×3. If I export as 1024×576 then Encore won’t import the file and tells me that I need 720×576. If I’m doing something wrong, someone please tell me…..

Encore DVD only supports full NTSC and PAL resolutions at the moment (720*480 and 720*576) and hence the error while supporting 1024*576

But, out of curiosity, why are you using this resolution anyway?

Purely out of desperation. I appreciate that it’s not correct, but my adventurous spirit got the better of me…..

Activate your AVI > right click > Interpret Footage > Conform to widescreen.

Thank you. That’s exactly the answer I needed.

I’m using an Avid MC Adrenaline (v2.16) and have “Send to” configured to open Encore. I export and encode QT reference files, both PAL and NTSC. No problems so far with programs up to 24 min in length.

what settings do you use when using the “Send To”? how long does it usually take to export and import your files?
