    Hello,
I have a scene where I want to simulate depth of field. I have rendered out a depth matte of my 3d scene and would like to know how I can apply this matte to create depth of field. I know that I could render out .rla files, but I was wandering if anyone had a method for using depth mattes.

    Thanks,

    Wes

Import your depth matte, put it in the comp, and hide it. Than apply the Lens Blur effect to the layer you want to add DOF to and set the Depth Map Layer property to your depth matte.

There’s also the Depth of Field effect, which can read camera distance embeded into a RPF/RLA image sequence and apply the blur directly with some interesting options.
