  • Using CatDV as an FCPX conform tool

    Hi.

I am trying to help a fellow cow user and it has been suggested that CatDV might be an answer to his question.

Basically, he gets a temp file, cuts a promo with it, receives a high res file and needs to use the High Res file to connect to the Low Res edit.

WIth FCP7, he did this through EDL.

With FCPX and CatDV, it seems I can do this as well, but it’s not working.

    Here’s the process.

Edit a 720p23.976 DVCPro HD file down.
    Export FCPXML of the Project.
    Import to CatDV
OPen the Sequence and “Attach Media” and attach the high res 720p 23.976 ProRes movie
Export an FCPXML or “Send to FCPX”

the resulting sequence in FCPX results in a 25p sequence.

The media shows up as online, but the timeline is all black (meaning no media is shown).

All signs point to FCPX showing the proper file, but for some reason it isn’t displayed in FCPX.

I tired this with an FCP7 workflow and it worked.

Any ideas as to what might be happening?

    Thanks for your time.

    Jeremy

Oddly enough, we recently noticed a similar issue where FCPX would get confused if you tried to include 23.976 footage in a 25 fps sequence. Can you provide more details on how you created the initial sequence, was this within FCPX? What sequence settings did you use?

    Thanks for the response.

[Rolf Howarth] “Can you provide more details on how you created the initial sequence, was this within FCPX? What sequence settings did you use?

Original sequence was created in FCPX with 720p 23.976 stereo settings.

Add a 720p23.976 DVCPro HD clip. Edited.

    Export FCPXML.

    Import to CatDv.

Attach media with 720p23.976 ProResHQ movie.

Export FCPXML and import in FCPX (or Send To FCPX with same results) and the imported sequence is 720p25 and the timeline plays back all black.
