  • Using an analog to dv video converter to preview on an external monitor

Ok this might seem like a stupid question but I’m trying to do a preliminary color correct on a short film with a limited budget, the film was shot and edited in dvcpro hd 720p I borrowed and old sony PVM-20N2U trinitron video monitor, but my fcp system doesn’t have component in on it. So I was wondering if you could use an analog to dv converter similar to this: PYRO AV API-558-EFS Link (High Quality Analog to DV Video Converter) to monitor the HD video on the the sony monitor so I can do a semi proper color correct. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a lot,
    Ben

Nope. This won’t work at all. Forget the fact that you cannot monitor HD via FireWire through that device. That is for DV only. No, the biggest issue is that SD and HD have very different color spaces. You cannot properly color HD on an SD monitor.

Nope, that arrangement will not work at all.
