  • Using AE in Multiple monitors – workflow tips?

Posted by Kengr on October 24, 2007 at 10:53 am

    Hi –

It seems that it’s easiest to use AE in multiple monitors, and have the comp window in it’s own monitor, so everything’s easier to see, like a video preview window in an NLE.

Does anyone have workflow tips or ideas for how to best use multiple monitor setups with AE? (or screencaps)?

    thx,

    k

Personally I like to have my secondary monitor available for Photoshop/Illustrator/Firefox/FTP Client, etc.

I find that the only time I want a comp window in my other monitor is when I’m doing a full frame preview of an HD or 2K composition (which is relatively rarely).

However, if your monitors are relatively lower resolution, then you may need to use the extra real estate that an extra monitor provides. In that case, all I would recommend would be to either shut the Comp window when you render or put the render queue in the same panel to speed up render times.

good point… actually I have 3 hires monitors, widescreens… lots of real estate.. I find I just like being able to see a huge comp window for better detail work, than having it scrunched in the middle of the program the way AE has by default.. that’s my NLE background, working to produce dvds, I always have my video preview window in a separate monitor.. makes it much easier to see all the timelines, vs small default timeline views.. good to share tips on this.
