  • Using a Pen: How to Smooth and How to Draw Over An Image

Greetings all. Picked up a new Wacom and have been wondering how to do two things in After Effects:

    1. Where is the Smooth setting for the pen stroke? The help file says that:
The Smoother command in the Vector Paint options menu removes points from a selected stroke or strokes.

But where in the world is this??? I’m just trying to smooth out a stroke; not unlike the option you have in Flash.

    2. When I want to sketch over a layer (a tif image) is there any way to see ALL the layers underneath while you are doing this work? The only way I can see how to do it is export an image with all your layers on, then bring that image back into your project as a temp file, draw on that, cut and paste all your paint strokes into the desired comp layer, then trash the temp image. A bit cumbersome.

    Thanks

Hrrmmm, in the options menu of Vector Paint? After you’ve applied the Vector Paint effect look in the effects panel at the top of the effect heading, there should be something that says “Reset” and “Options…” at least I think that’s where it is without having AE in front of me right now.

Vector Paint is kind of a cludgy effect, but it should work in the comp view, where as the ‘standard’ Paint effect only works in the layer view. I prefer the standard Paint effect when I can get away with it.

Heya, sorry I should have been more clear.

I’m looking for some way to smooth the pen during regular Paint; not vector paint. In the AE help files the only smooth pen reference was for Vector.

The issue is this, laying down a paint stroke with the pen sometimes results in a bit of jaggy fun. In Flash you can easily set the smoothing, and wondering if AE has something similar.

Anyone? Is there a way to smooth your paint stroke WHILE you are drawing with the Wacom?
