user account question
Posted by Marcel Tiemensma on April 11, 2008 at 5:02 pmHi. My reseller installed my macbook and my users > home-account has his name.
When I want to change it in my name I get the message:’Piet’ can’t be modified because it’s used by OSX…
What should I do?Zane Barker replied 18 years, 1 month ago 3 Members · 7 Replies -

April 11, 2008 at 7:23 pmHave you done much with this account yet? Honestly it’s probably easier to just start a new admin account with your name and switch to using that from now on.

April 12, 2008 at 7:07 amIf you are referring to the name used for the user folder then that cannot be changed in leopard. Personally I am glad that the OS no longer lets you change it, I have seen to may people jack there computer up by changing that.
Create a new user, give it administrator rights and then delete the old.
Also ask your reseller why he set up YOUR computer in HIS name, instead of using YOUR name.

Programs should install for ALL users so you should be fine.
[marcel tiemensma] “in Accounts I changed the name and under My account it says: Marcel Admin And my User name is also: Marcel….but the Home Icon still says: Piet “
Like I said before that home folder name CANNOT be changed.
Create a new user account, move any of your files to the new account and then delete the one with the undesired name.

April 13, 2008 at 7:27 amI made a new account. Logged out from the old account and logged in with the new name…
But then there weren’t any of the new programs visible. I.o.w: ‘Programs should install for ALL users’ might not be true or working for me. That means I have to install all the new programs still??? -

April 14, 2008 at 1:28 amThey should be located in the applications folder, they will not automatically be added to the dock.
