  • Used UPS: bad idea?

Buying a used UPS for your company’s domain controller seems like a dangerous prospect. Sure, you can always get the eBay seller to replace or refund it, but if it fails and you lose data or productivity, it could end up costing the difference of a new unit.

    Am I being overly cautious?

You are being properly cautious – the batteries in UPSs have a limited lifespan, and one should not be a cheapskate where protecting your data protection scheme is involved.

Plenty cautious. The units themselves can last, but the batteries need replacing about every 2 years or so. If you are buying a used unit, get a new battery!
    Good Luck!
