Get ready for a sad story (sob sob).
I’m a low budget filmmaker (aren’t we all). I’ve determined I can scan my film at 2k resolution but have only just realized that I will need the full Cineform Prospect HD product w/ 2k pack($3500) to use it! I was under the false assumption that I could acquire the footage and then edit with the less expensive Aspect HD. Perhaps I can scan to 1080p res and avoid the 2k pack. (Or I think I can use Aspect HD as long as I output to a lower rez and stick to 8 bit color which is unacceptable to me). In any case, this makes it unaffordable for me at this time. I really only need Prospect hd for a short time to online my film which has already been offlined in Premiere. Once my film is done, I won’t need the software anymore.

I assume sharing the cost of software is legal as long as it is only installed on 1 person’s system at a time.
I’m Los Angeles based. Is anyone interested in going in on the software together? Or perhaps, some one who already owns Prospect may want to rent it out? Are there any good sources for used software?

    Contact me. Thanks.

If you want to-do a DI, especially from 2K scans, $3500 is cake.

Since you’re on AspectHD, you may want to see if there’s a facily that’s willing to-do a telecine for you to HDV stock . . . at least then you’d have something to work at in a quasi-HD resolution.

But Prospect HD/2K is a steal of deal when it comes to wanting to-do a 2K online-conform. The prices alone for a drive array to push that amount of data around in real-time are going to be far more astronomical.

My research shows me that Cineform has created an excellent product. And honestly, I think the price is fair for what it offers. But I simply cannot afford it.
According to what I have read, I will need very little drive space to handle the 2k files since I will recieve them already encoded into the cineform codec. I’m expecting to get away with a RAID 0 array which comes free on my motherboard. I just need a couple of 200-300GB drives. Those are under $100 each now.

Technically, it boils down to their license agreement, AKA “the fine print”. While many software companies do not frown upon multiple uses within a single location when the software is used on one machine at a time, the fact that the software would be literally trucked back and forth between users might be an issue.

I know that one of the agreements that I’ve read pretty clearly stated that “installation” of the software on more than one machine
