  • Use Windows XP 64 with AE?

Posted by Eric Goldstein on January 3, 2007 at 8:55 pm

    Hi,

We’re having constant problems with the 2 Gig memory limitation with Windows XP. After researching the boot document method of enabling 3 Gigs of RAM, we’ve found too many problems to go that way. Has anyone tried using Windows XP 64 with it’s ability to access greater amounts of RAM? Does anyone know if it’s possible to use AE with Win XP 64?

    Thanks,

    Eric

[Eric Goldstein] “Does anyone know if it’s possible to use AE with Win XP 64?”

Yes, but it will still only run as a 32 bit app and use 3GB of RAM. Maybe the new Production Studio will be 64 bit native and break this limitation – hell, they are going back to Mac, so Win 64 should be in the game, too.

Yupp, definitely. Would come just in time for me now that we are finally switching to 64 bit at work. Steve, do you hear us?! ;O)

I run 64-bit Windows with AE and use Nucleo Pro to access all 10GB of RAM. AE can only use 2GB but Nucleo runs multiple instances of AE which can each use 2GB of Ram (sort of). My explanation is a little weak but you get the point. Bottom line is that AE screams now when loaded with Ram and NPro.
