Use comments to point people to Creative COW from After Effects Help
As you may already know, you can add comments to almost any page of After Effects Help on the Web.
What you may not know is that you can subscribe to an RSS feed for those comments. I just added a post on my blog to show how to subscribe to an RSS feed for comments on After Effects CS4 Help on the Web. If you want to get updates as people post tips, tricks, corrections, links to tutorials, et cetera, then subscribe.
In case the message still hasn’t gotten through, I’ll say it like this: I’d really like it if y’all would add a bunch of comments to the relevant pages of After Effects Help to tell our readers about specific tutorials, articles, and other resources that are here on the Creative COW website.
We’ve already got dozens of links from After Effects Help to resources here on Creative COW. (Click here to see what I mean.) But so far we’ve only been able to add the links at a little less than the speed at which I can watch video tutorials. We’d have a lot more good links if you folks pitched in and told us (and readers of After Effects Help) where the good stuff is here on the Creative COW website. And I’m not just talking about the tutorials and articles. Feel free to link to forum threads that are especially enlightening, too.
And don’t think that you can only point to brand new information created for After Effects CS4. As we all know, most of the fundamental features of an application don’t change from one version to the next. So tutorials and examples that were good for After Effects CS3 (or even After Effects 7.0) are probably still good for After Effects CS4. Go ahead and point to older material if it’s still valid and good.
For example, I added a link from the “Reshape effect” section of After Effects Help to a tutorial by Chris Zwar that he wrote for After Effects 5.5. It’s still good, even though the UI is a little different now.
BTW, if you ever want to know how to map instructions from After Effects CS3 to After Effects CS4, see the “User interface changes from After Effects CS3 to After Effects CS4” page of After Effects Help on the Web. That’s why we made this page.

This is a great idea; having further info and video tutorials linked directly from the help seems quite the time saver – I’ll try linking up some stuff next time I’m looking through the guide.
Have you ever considered adding some information on comments to the help itself? I’ve just read the thing on your blog about comments, and it seems they have a much wider use then I’ve ever really thought of. Maybe just changing the word “Comments” to something more like “Comments, corrections, tips, tricks and links” might suggest better what they can be used for, maybe a more detailed guide of ‘comment FAQs’ would be required, I don’t know but I think adding something on it might encourage more/better use.
(And whilst I’m suggesting things you could consider adding a “Rate this page” feature to find out what pages people find helpful and what we’re all confused by…)

Yes, it’s clear that we haven’t communicated this well enough yet. That’s part of why I’m posting here. Thanks for the feedback.
