Use a comp as “texture” for a shape’s extrusion

February 6, 2023 at 1:58 pmHi,
After having extruded a shape, is there a way to “project” something onto the extrusion?
By default the extrusion will use the same colour as the shape. Instead, I would like to use it to show a video — think of it as a wall onto which a film is projected.
I suppose this would be similar to the famous Marvel intro (starts at 17 seconds https://youtu.be/k1547CezWqQ?t=17).
I could find a way to use it as a mask, but of course the video wouldn’t adjust to the shape’s depth and curves, and that would be especially noticeable if I projected it onto text (e.g. the letter O).
Many thanks.

February 7, 2023 at 1:38 pmI don’t think there’s a way to do this with extruded shape layers in After Effects. You’d be better off using Video Copilot’s Element 3D plugin, or doing this in C4D.
