  • Use a comp as “texture” for a shape’s extrusion

    Hi,

After having extruded a shape, is there a way to “project” something onto the extrusion?

By default the extrusion will use the same colour as the shape. Instead, I would like to use it to show a video — think of it as a wall onto which a film is projected.

I suppose this would be similar to the famous Marvel intro (starts at 17 seconds https://youtu.be/k1547CezWqQ?t=17).

I could find a way to use it as a mask, but of course the video wouldn’t adjust to the shape’s depth and curves, and that would be especially noticeable if I projected it onto text (e.g. the letter O).

    Many thanks.

I don’t think there’s a way to do this with extruded shape layers in After Effects. You’d be better off using Video Copilot’s Element 3D plugin, or doing this in C4D.

That makes sense to me. Thank you for taking the time to reply!
