Just had to transfer my edit to a new computer, I’m in the middle of a huge edit and need to be able to connect 4 hard rives, but only have 3 ports. Guy at Apple store says to get a <b style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit;”>USB C MULTIPORT ADAPTER (WITH LARGE TRANSFER SPEED) I have looked around and can’t find anything. Any ideas please. And yes, next time I do a 12 TB edit I’ll use a different set up, but at the moment I’m in a place of no return! Thanks

First, what Mac do you have?

Second, are your drives USB-C or thunderbolt?

Third, are they bus powered or do they have to plug in to the wall?

    I have a MacBook Pro, 16inch, M1 Max, 64 gb

the drives USB-C ( but also come with USB-C to USB leads, as well as the USB-C to USB-C)

and have to plug into the wall

Just deployed a few M1Pro MBP to graphic designers.

I got them the OWC Thunderbolt Hub.

It does seem overkill since a few can live off a Belkin Media Hub but once you start using RAID drives you will need the OWC for sure.

FYI the Belkin Media Hub is able to do ethernet, HDMI to 4K, and a USB3 LaCie.

One user has been doing this for weeks and so far its been smooth for her.

how would the OWC thunderbolt hub manage speed wise? I have a daisy chain set up of 4x 4TB drives for the film ?

Hub vs Chain, should work out to be the same, since they’re all still going to the same, single USB port on the Mac itself. I’ve never seen one operate faster than the others.

I for one would avoid using a hub for anything heavy like film work.

For that, I use an OWC Envoy 2TB or 4TB on a single port.

I work in a RED ECO so it’s butter for me.
