usb 3 in 2009 mac pro

I’ve installed several of these cards with good success. You can expect speeds better than FW800 and about the same as eSATA. A lot of the performance will depend on the array, but I doubt you’ll get performance as goos as through Thunderbolt.

3 camera multicam clips in FC. Will it be able to handle this?

An internal 2 drive software raid on the mac pro was able to handle it. Not super fast but I could edit the multicam.

But for projects I’m bringing to and from the studio this would get tedious.

Hmm… I would think (based on the numbers I’ve seen) that if your 2-stripe software RAID can do it, then the external USB3.0 drive would also be able to do it. Depends on the drive array itself, of course.

I asked gary from an old thread too since he felt there were limitations to usb 3 in terms of software raids. and limited success from a lot of models.

well the pegasus drives work great but were three times the price at double the size. the owc seem to be working fine bout haven’t used them with usb 3 since none of our computers have usb 3. i guess its worth a gamble for a $200 card since I have the drives already and need to go back and forth with projects.
