February 7, 2008 at 2:31 pm[Kim Rowley] “I followed Jeremy’s advice and saw that although I ran the Apple automatic software update option from the finder, I never got the prompt to run the 2 Apple pro updates (2007.01 and 2007.02).”
Kim,
Second guessing Apple’s software update can be problematic, in that updates need to happen in a certain order, or sometimes they won’t happen at all. And, sometimes Software Update needs to run many times in a row until all updates are finished and a message pops up indicating that “all software is up to date.” As I recall, the Pro Apps updates did not appear until other updates had been completed.
When you click on Software Update do you get a message telling you that your software is up to date?

February 7, 2008 at 3:00 pmHey David,
When I run the Software update, the only thing that comes up is QT 7.4 (now 7.4.1). I get no other indication of other updates that are necessary or the message that you mention saying my software is up to date. Oddly enough I wan’t notified even of the FCP 6.0.2 update after having installed FCP 6. As I say, everything is brand new and totally legal. But obviously there is a missing link somewhere. I saw on the Apple download page there is a fix for keyboard problems called “proapplication runtime 4.0.2” but I’m having the same problems as with the security updates.kim

February 7, 2008 at 5:40 pmOK all, just to update whoever is experiencing similar problems:
I just spent an hour and a half with Apple tech support in their European HQ. The problem has perked their interest and it appears that it is in fact an issue. The problem lies with the Italian pro keyboard and how the software perceives it in FCP. They are working on it and promised to get back to me on Monday. If worse comes to worse we’ll try installing Tiger as we have 3 FCP systems with Tiger and the italian pro keyboard and have had no issues.
Thanks to all who tried to help. As it turns out it was a problem beyond any user! Thanks for the support though. After 3 days of problems that has a value of its own!

You say your computer is brand new, if it is a model that was released AFTER Leopard was released, then it will NOT run Tiger on it.
Don’t let technology get in the way of your creativity!

February 7, 2008 at 6:15 pmThanks for the heads up. I’ll check it out with Apple support. It is a brand new machine, delivered in December. Problem is I was busy working on another job and didn’t have time to get the station up and running til last week. Thanks again Zane.

January 22, 2009 at 6:46 pmLe Coyote, I’m hoping you’ll get notification of this reply! I’m having this exact same problem with my keyboard right now. It’s a machine I don’t ever work on and the F10 keys, etc, were still mapped to expose. So I went in and fixed it *with Final Cut Pro still open* and now the all kinds of things don’t work, like Command-z and many other combinations.
I suspect I’ve hit on this bug. Do you have any more info or ever heard of a way to fix it? I can’t get it fixed no matter what I try.
