  • URGENT!! How to convert HDV Material to DVD in AE?

    Hi

This is very urgent so please help me!

I need to convert HDV-Material (rendered out of PP2.0 as a Mov-File with Foto-JPEG on 100% and upper field first) into a DVD PAL Widescreen.

I want to do it in After Effects because my experience with the AME of PP2.0 are bad as hell.

First question: HDV is upper field first, DVD PAL is lower field first. So how do I have to swap the fields??

    And what is better:
    – Importing the footage into a DV PAL Widescren comp and resizing it to fit the composition ..or…
    – importing the footage into a HDV Comp and in the render settings choose MPEG-DVD and let it resize it then?

I would prefer the first one but I am not sure.
I’m totally afraid of degrading the quality of the HDV material while converting it to SD-DVD so please help me!

Follow ALL field order conventions in AE. If HDV is upper field first, interpret it as such. If SD PAL Widescreen is lower field first, then render lower field first. Rest assured, if you keep the field order straight like that, you will have no problems.

–> So it means I have to interpret it as UFF but then in the render queue dialog choose LFF?

Do I have to import the HDV material into a HDV comp and then let it resize to DVD PAL format when rendering or already put everything into a DV comp and resize it before rendering?

Thank you very much for your help!

You can also change a clip’s field order by moving it up or down one pixel in the comp. UFF becomes LFF, and vice versa.

    Hi there,

Everything we do here in Melb Australa (PAL) is in UFF, from capture through to render for broadcast. As far as I know, Australia PAL is UFF so all footage taken in AE is interpreted as UFF and then in the Render set to UFF….never have any problems.

    Cheers
