  • Urgent Help!! PAL footage in a USA studio!

    Hi guys
    Help please!
I’m in the US for a live broadcast (I’m cutting insert packages from the UK) and have brought some PAL projects and media with me, which require additional footage editing into them. I’m working it a well equiped FCP6 suite with SDI NTSC digi beta machines, plus there is a standards convertor here.

I’ve got a PAL time line with PAL footage, and have captured NTSC footage and edited it in. It plays OK in FCP but of cause not on the NTSC output monitor.

I’ve tried looping the FCP output via an AJA IO box (so that’s a PAL signal) through the standards convertor (set to convert PAL to NTSC) then into the NTSC beta machine, but the output monitor on the beta is showing out-of-sync snow!

I’ve also tried exporting my PAL timeline through Compressor and converting it to a 29.97 frames quicktime, but although the picture appeared OK the audio had speeded up and shifted the pitch!

    Anyone any ideas??

    Hi Dave
Thanks for coming back to me.
We are broadcasting from here in NTSC so it’s just my PAL inserts which are the issue.
I think I may have cracked it. I was trying to output to a standards convertor, but I discoved that the AJA IO box was set to NTSC, now this has been changed to PAL, we’ve got a PAL timeline playing to a standards convertor and converting to NTSC onto the NTSC deck. Jobs a good un! (AS we say where I come from!)
    Many thanks
    David
