i am finally on-lining my project after 7 years. a lot of footage was shot on DVX100a at 24p. i have been editing on an Xpress Pro system and am now going to be editing on an HD Adrenaline at DNxHD 175 in a 1080 23.97p project, the reason i’m editing in that resolution is that half my footage was shot on HDCAM. my question is, what is the best way to get the DVX footage into the avid: bring it in native, then transcode it in the avid or to run it through a teranex, upscaling it to 1080 23.97p first before it goes into the avid? so, i guess the real question is, how good is the internal avid upscaling capability compare to the outboard teranex?

    thanks,
    kurt

    Kurt,

It depends on the footage, how it was shot, and how it will be used in your final product. You should do a short test with your footage to be upscaled. For some projects, the Avid upscaling works fine for me. For critical shots, beauty shots, etc., nothing I have seen compares to Teranex upscaling, properly calibrated. If budget is not an issue, go Teranex. But still do a short test yourself, if possible.

    Also consider using BCC UpRez.
