Today I was having a look at some SD to HD upscalers, with HDMI inputs, and it got me thinking.

I have always been quite impressed on how well looked the upscaled output, via HDMI, on my DVD player. That is I was feeding an SD DVD, the player upscaled that signal to some kind of HD video and the look was awesome.

So what I wonder is this: would it be a good idea to convert DV stuff, which is SD, onto HD? To use say a Blackmagic Shuttle to capture the HDMI output from an upscaler where you plugged a DV camera into and then import it to Avid?

How feasible is this and how effective?

You can always use the Avid to upconvert the material. Start in an SD project, then change your project to HD and it will uprez your material.

Is this better than a device doing it? Against a basic AJA FS2 I would say it is just as good. Against a Blackmagic Terranex, I would say the Terranex has more options.
