  • Upscale IMX 50 Pal to HD 720P

I’m working which Final Pro with a project which is setup as an HDV 720P project. In this project I have PAL IMX 50 material which needs to be upscaled to 720P. In Final Cut Pro I used the scale method to do this, but when I view the sequence, the image quality is not great, by which I mean that Final Cut Pro probably does not do a nice rendering of interlaced material in a progessive timeline.
Is there a way to properly upscale PAL material to HD720P?

This is in deed problematic. I would transfer the IMX 50 to tape. The next step is to encode from tape on 10bit uncompressed. From there on try to upconvert.

Unfortunately it is not possible to transfer the IMX material to tape. What I did try is to create a new project with a 10 bit uncompressed setting and to render the sequence into a new movie file. Then I imported the file in a HDV720P project, but I’m keep having the same problems. Are there any software tools who do upscaling?

The only solution is hardware (Kona3 or equivalent) upconvert.
