Upgrading To Universal Version Of Studio
First is it important to upgrade to the universal version of studio if I do not have an new intel mac? Also if I do upgrade is it as easy as installing the new software over the old?

It is only important if you ever want to update or upgrade your software in the future, as all upgrades and updates will be universal binary. Its a simple software update right over your existing FCP software. 5.1 has already been updated to 5.1.1 with numerous fixes, and 5.2.1 is in the wings. So, unless you want to be stuck with 5.0.4 forever, get the crossgrade immediately, do not pass go, do not collect $200.
