Upgrading from FCP 2 to FCP Studio on Intel MacBook Pro

No, I’m pretty certain the crossgrade does NOT apply to FCP 2.0. Only FCP 5.0.

For 2.0 you’ll have to get a regular Upgrade via the Apple Store. I think it’s around $299 or $499, something like that. The upgrade will take you to FCP 5.1 and then you can simply update to 5.1.2 via Software Update.

Yeah, it’s $699. But it’s listed on the crossgrade page, so that’s what I called it.

But you’re right, it’s under the “upgrade” section of that page.

So I guess it’s an upgrade, not a crossgrade. But it’s all on the same page, so hopefully hartcom shouldn’t have any trouble figuring it out.

You need to go buy the Upgrade version of Final Cut Studio (which now comes with install discs for the x.1 universal versions of all of the software). When you install it will ask you for your old serial from FCP 2. Should be gravy from then on. Don’t lose your FCP 2 license. The install disc won’t do you any good now, but you need to hold on to the license with the serial number on it in case you ever need to re-install.
I started on FCP 2 back in college. This is going to be a very big change for you, and one I think you’ll be really happy with once you get up to speed on the new features (and new apps).
